Composting, Local Food Security Forum, Hydrosols and more…

It’s that time of year, again, when the trees provide us with an abundance of brown matter for our compost bins and mulch for gardens. The leaves are falling, and aren’t they a gorgeous sight this year? The last few years there have plenty of golds and yellows but this year the reds are breathtaking!

So, take advantage of these precious gifts. Check out this great article on different ideas to capture and keep leaves instead of putting them in the truck and to be carted off, then spending money on mulch and compost next year. And to get you further on this “dirty” path, we’re having a Composting Workshop given by Amy Roseman, our Community Compost Center Manager. It’ll be Composting basics, a short hands-on thing and plenty of time for your questions. Join her at Vecino Victory Garden, 1535 Laburnum Ave in Chico, Sunday, Nov. 7 from 11am to 12:30ish. – Free DIY Hydrosol and cream making demo

Saturday November 13, 2021 at 12:00 noon @ Vecino garden

Would you like to know some simple tools and step by step processes to make your own DIY hydrosol and cream?

Hydrosols are a form of aromatherapy that contain almost none of the potential negative effects from using essential oils. The aromatic compounds are completely dissolved in the distillation water.

Replacing distilled water with hydrosol in a basic cream recipe increases the healing and moisturizing effect of the cream.

At this demo you will receive the map, guidelines and inspiration to make your own self-care products. Or maybe holiday gifts! Facilitated by Alysun Wonderland.

Farm City Celebration. The 17 th Annual Harvest Festival has moved to Durham, there’s a kids day and a farm tour. Check out the festivities from Nov. 4-10 here.

The holidays are approaching! Keep an eye, ear and heart out for our Year End fundraising project to support the Farmers Marketmobile Angel Program . Funds raised get local food to fire survivors who are experiencing ongoing trauma as they recover. We want to support the current program in Concow and Magalia and expand it to the Chico Farmers Markets for folks who relocated by choice or need. We’re excited to include the whole community in this project that reminds us all that Local Food Is Local Love and that we are all in this together. Let’s feed our own, right here in Butte County!

Remember in the Very Busy coming months to slow down, breathe and enjoy life.

We’ll be at the Farmers Markets a few times this month, so keep an eye out for us and stop by to say hi.

Take care and keep smiling-

Pamm, Toni, Jarrett, Amy, Ali and Donna
