What is 1000 Acres More?

During the World Wars of the 20th Century, We, The People of the US came together to grow food 42% of the produce we ate to support the war effort.

We want to recreate that movement but this time, do it for love and community, instead of war.

We get there by growing 1000 Acres More food that stays here and feeds us via three pillars:

Personal Gardens, Community Gardens and School Gardens.

Become part of the fun by joining in one or all of the programs that support each.

Backyard gardens for all

Finding ways to grow more food together in your 'hood

Community Gardens around the county

A school program from daycares to high schoolers to teach kids food literacy via growing food

Please help us reach out goal of 1000 Acres More land growing food that stays here.

Register your garden so we know how close we are. (no addresses, just zip codes)

Support Others To Garden: Become A Member of the Garden Brigade

Volunteer to help others by digging in the soil to get gardens in, revitalize abandoned gardens, expand productive gardens.

Consider being a Beginner Garden Brigade Mentor: We don’t need degrees to grow gardens, we need experience. Whether you have been gardening for one or 25 years, you can be a Garden Mentor to a newbie: help them be successful, and feel supported, and ready for more. If you are shy because you aren’t an “expert but you know some things” we’ll have more experienced “expert” mentors to help you.

Or you can join us as a Garden Brigade Captain and lead less experienced volunteer crews to help our community grow more food together.

You ready? Find out more and sign up to become a Garden Brigade Captain or mentor here.

No matter where you are in the adventure of growing food, it all counts because every garden counts

Join us! Contact us today and help our community grow good food for all.
