Save Our Seeds and Local Foodie Events!

Now that we are slowly coming out of shelter, there’s lots going on with local food!

Save Our Seeds

Take the pledge to grow tasty food, then save seed for generations to come! You can get one of our packets of four seeds by taking the pledge here and we’ll deliver them to you. Or, you can go to one of the Tiny Libraries around town and get a pack there. Pictured is a Tiny Librarian, Celia at her Tiny Library turned food pantry and Seed Library for COVID in Oroville. Find her and others on the map on our website.

If you see a library in your town that is not on the map, let us know and we’ll ask the Tiny Librarian host if it’s ok for us to leave seeds. If you see that a library on our map is out of seeds, let us know and we’ll restock them.  If you want to help pack and deliver seeds or be a Tiny Seed Librarian stocker, please contact us . We’d love to have you join our team!

Food Security Survey For Burn Scar

North State Public Radio is reporting a series of stories about food access and recovery after the Camp Fire. We have decided to partner alongside NSPR to help share this survey to help better understand the issues surrounding food access after the Camp Fire and to aid our work in solving the issue. We hope you’ll consider taking this survey to better inform the reporting and stories that will come from it. Please share far and wide with your friends and family impacted by the Camp Fire.

From the Ground Up, Inc is calling all mural artists.

From their FB page – “We are about to finally deliver our 40′ containers to Lake Concow Campground, which will house our tool lending library and a second will be used for Concow community “giveaways”. They are ugly, no matter how you look at it, so we thought to offer a contest to the community. We would like to see these containers turned into art that is a perfect to blend at Lake Concow Campground. Check out www.lakeconcowcampground.net for pictures from before the fire. It is now a clean slate. Beauty always rises from ashes and here we go everyone.

We are ready and requesting sketches, as to what you would paint on our containers. The side of one container will be seen as you enter the campground, and the outer wall on other container will be seen as you leave the campground if that helps. Sketches will be accepted until June 15th and the winner will be announced June 19th. The Konkow Partners will be voting, From the Ground Up will help with supplies and so let’s have some fun with this.

Sketches can be emailed to fromthegroundup2013@hotmail.com , texted to 530-513-7638 or PM’d to us. Close your eyes and show us what you see…”

Last few days to get your stylin’ Tshirt from Silkshop Printing

You know you want one! Locally owned, Silkshop Printing started PrintAid shortly after COVID came to our community.  They offered this special deal to local businesses to help them weather the times. The last day to order is June 15 so get your stylin’ shirt before this great deal goes away. Get yours, get some for your family and friends for your half year Solstice celebration, for the neighbors, whomever….just be sure you get one here before it’s too late!!

Like what we’re doing but don’t have time to volunteer?

All this garden and box building takes resources and money.  Many of the usual large donors who fund gardening projects have been impacted by COVID and are not able to be as supportive as they had been in the past.

So what’s a nonprofit to do? Try to find guerrilla ways to thrive. One way you can help?  If it’s your birthday, consider doing a birthday fundraiser on Facebook and put Butte County Local Food Network as the recipient. Simple, easy and you’ll know that you’re making your community more food secure.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!
