Spring Fling In The Gardens!
What happens when the Community Gardens in Butte County join hands?
The Butte County Community Garden Network!
We are coming together to remind the community there is a Community Garden near you that’s here for you as a source of joy, connection, learning, community and tasty food. Join us for our collaborative kick off event this Saturday, April 17.
Each garden is unique. We have models ranging from individual plot rental to all growing together and sharing what’s available. All provide a sense of place to connect and grow food. Don’t believe us? Find out more about the wonders of Community Gardens here.
Please visit each garden’s link (if they have one) below to find out their location, times open tomorrow and what they’ll be doing. Then come out to your favorite garden, stay a spell and, perhaps, visit all of them. (please note…not all the gardens chose to participate this round so if your closest garden is not listed in the text but you see them in the graphic, know they’ll be joining in for future events.)
Our Vecino Victory Garden will be open from 10am-4pm. We’re located at 1535 Laburnum in Chico, CA. We’ve decided to invite the community for an open house/garden of sorts to get a feel of what we are doing and where we are going. Then we invite you to join us most Sundays from 9am to noon to help us get there. Bring a bag lunch and your compost to help christen our new Neighborhood Composting Center.
We’ll be offering little event-lettes with the following schedule-
10 Greetings, Play In The Garden
11 Garden Tour
11 Children’s Art Activity
12 BYO Bag Lunch
1 Cooking Demo with Toni
2 Children’s Garden Story Time
3 Garden Tour
3 Botanical Mocktail Hour
Can’t wait to meet you in person!

Kentfield Garden- 1125 Kentfield Rd, Chico. Noon to 2
Our favorite little garden could use some help please. Looking for volunteers on Saturday, April 17th. We’re going to meet at Kentfield Garden at 1125 Kentfield Road in Chico at noon.
We are being joined by many other gardening opportunities, with different addresses and hours, if you can’t make Kentfield. Food is growing all over town, but we can only do so much alone. Many hands make light the work. We will be providing snacks.
Our goal is to prepare the raised beds for a Summer planting which will happen on Saturday, May 1st. We’re a little behind, but we will get Kentfield planted with your help. Social distancing and hand cleaning required, but we sure hope you can spare a few minutes. We sure miss everyone!
You can also come check out our outdoor teaching kitchen recently completed, generously funded by the Power of 100+ Women in Chico. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We are inviting our gardeners and friends to enjoy a few hours of camaraderie and teamwork, put on your gloves, and “chip” in on some garden improvement projects. We anticipate cleaning up our pathways, covering paths with wood chips, getting garden beds prepped, working on the composting piles, and more! We will have music and may have some refreshments, but suggest packing your own picnic. We will maintain COVID-safe practices and be sure to keep an appropriate distance from each other. We look forward to you and a few friends joining us for a productive day!
