Garden BLITZ On The Burn Scar Is In Full Swing!

Local Foodie Friends!!

We started 2020 with the goal of installing 100 gardens in Butte County by the end of the year.

We got 32 gardens installed in the Spring then had to postpone the last ten gardens slated to go in the weekend of the beginning of the lockdown. But we got them in safely in June, for a total of 42 gardens in our first BLITZ.

Our goal is to install 58 gardens during this late summer Garden BLITZ On The Burn Scar to round it out for that 100.

This past weekend, due to the amazing volunteers who joined us and some of the garden recipients who said they’d install their own gardens, we only have 18 more gardens to go to reach that goal: Two in upper Magalia, 12 in Paradise and 4 in Concow! WOOT!!

Many thanks to the Paradise Community Guilds for their generous partnership in this project by offering their land as the staging area and their volunteer hours to see this get done. The watermelon rocked it, too. Just sayin’.

And, as you can see by the lovely smiling face of Allison, just finishing her last garden install on Sunday, we had a blast!  (We especially love the happy soil smudges that show she really got into her work.)

Thanks, Allison for your stellar help as a new volunteer! She, along with Barbara, Elise, the Paradise Community Guilds Gang and all who were able to show up, allowed us to get 40 gardens to their homes.  Not too shabby, given the times we are living in!

And how about that last minute volunteer offer of Bill Happ to stick around for hours with his TRACTOR that helped reduce the workload by hours? WooT! So cool how this community is coming together!

And now it’s your turn!!

We need your help to get this done!

If you feel safe to do so and have good strong arms, we could sure use your help to finish off this second of our many BLITZs to come. Join the fun, help gardens find a home, make happy people happy.

Please go here and sign up for either Saturday the 29th or Sunday the 30th . You can sign up by yourself or a COVID Bubble Safe Team. Bring your trucks, shovels, staple guns and a desire to help your neighbors and soon-to-be-friends grow more food to make us ALL more food secure.

We work in the mornings and are done by the time it gets too hot. Although we ask that you be careful with your body and lungs, we did not find the smoke bothersome this past weekend, and hopefully this weekend it’ll be even clearer.

Hope to see you this weekend for this final push!

And a mighty thanks and deep heartfelt gratitude to North Valley Community Foundation and Butte Strong Fund for making this fully gifted Garden BLITZ possible. It takes a universe to create community and security. We are blessed to have both right here.

We’ll send out another update next week when we have more time to write…so many fun things to share, so little time!

You can keep up with us on Facebook and Instagram at @bclocalfood

See you on the streets!

Pamm, Toni, Donna, Jarrett, Ali, Amy and the rest of the BCLFN Gang!
